Seeking a ‘remedy for the noise’, the Cabin is a test unit for off grid accommodation start up Find Sanctuary. The test unit is a self contained cabin aimed at providing a calm, sanctuary and deepen one’s connection to nature. This is achieved through large, strategically placed apertures to capture light and views and ample use of natural materials. A full bathroom, functional kitchen and small design touches aim to surprise and delight the user. Windows are operable creating shade and expanding space, decking pulls up to reveal a hidden bath and a reading nook creates a separate space for contemplation. Changes in material treatment help define space in an otherwise simple volume. I provided architectural and design consultation services to better connect the space with the brand’s objectives along with value engineering and fabrication techniques.
